Category Manager Contact Lens & Care Products, Schiphol, Amsterdam Area

GrandVision has exciting plans for the contact lens category within the omnichannel optical business. The Contact Lens Category team is tasked with important goals to make these plans happen, being enabled by strategic pillars. We aim to make the contact lens journey easier for our customers, both inside and outside of our stores. Consumer focus and engagement is pivotal. We have the possibility to change people’s lives in how they see and live their lives.

We’re looking to expand the category management team to achieve the short & mid-to-long term objectives. The team is responsible for the commercialization of the product & assortment within the CL Business Unit. Products groups within the scope of the category are contact lenses, care products and eye drops. On the one hand we have a clear path how to grow the business globally and how we would want the local business to evolve. At the same time we centrally support the OpCo’s in their local strategies, tactics & operations. In addition, there are critical business processes that need to be supported to set us up for the future.

The role offers a fantastic opportunity to form part of a focused team, where agile & efficient collaboration across team members and the bigger organisation is required. The primary objective of the role is to drive harmonization & focus in the commercial operations across the global business. You will develop deep contact lens knowledge of the category and the business that you will use to create a better and customer centric journey & and an innovative & focused product offering. You will be working closely with internal stakeholders, both at GVHQ and the local entities and also with external parties such as suppliers. The position is based in the GrandVision Headquarters at Schiphol.


Contact Lens Business Unit

Main purpose of the role


  • Support category management team in further refining the commercial proposition (product portfolio review, innovations, pricing, category growth initiatives)
  • Co-create global product strategies & drive implementation in the local business by close collaborations with other central & local teams. This also involves developing & evolving effective tools that support those roll outs and liaising with local teams to understand needs.
  • Gain & expand category knowledge on innovations & trends that supports the category in defining short & mid to long term opportunities & threats
  • Identification of product opportunities & requirements and ensure sourcing together with Procurement team
  • Bring new products to market (development of launch packs) together with the full CL BU team
  • Best practice & recommendations sharing across the local organizations & other relevant internal stakeholders
  • Involvement in key business projects that set GV up for the future
  • Go-to person for our local teams on (technical) product & assortment related topics
  • Support the development of training content targeted for store staff
  • Support the development of omnichannel customer journey touchpoints
  • Support the team in the creation of substantiated product claims for multiple targets (consumers, front of house sales staff, optometrist / opticians / contact lens specialists)
  • Support the contact lens operations to facilitate retail sales & store staff in effective assortment communications

Key stakeholders:

  • Internal – all CL BU functions, local category managers, central Customer Experience & Digital, QARA, & Training teams
  • External - contact lens manufacturers functions key account management, professional services, marketing

Required qualifications/level of education

  • Finished university education in business/international marketing
  • 5-7 years working experience in a category marketing related role
  • Working experience in a retail organisation of a bigger international organisation
  • A technical optical education (with CL specialization) or working experience –- gives you a big plus
  • High level of English, both written & verbal. Knowledge of other languages a plus
