Customs Compliance Specialist, Schiphol, Amsterdam Area, part of the Quality Assurance & Regulatory Affairs (QARA)

Reports to

Global Customs Compliance Manager

Main purpose of the role

The person appointed for this role is responsible for:

  • Act as the business lead on EU and non-EU Customs matters
  • Act as the key contact between Suppliers, Operations Team, and 3rd parties (Customs Broker and Freight Forwarder), monitoring maturity and performance of the counterparties through KPI's.
  • Ensure compliance with EU and non-EU customs regulations, WTO/WCO standards, and internal policies in the conduct of cross-border business activities
  • Proactively manage internal control programs for import and export compliance as per region and country specific regulation, ensuring best practices are followed
  • Support the Global Customs Manager and QARA Team when and where required

Required qualifications/level of education

  • In-depth knowledge of UCC (Union Customs Code)
  • Solid knowledge of WCO Technical Guidelines on Advance Ruling for Classification, Origin and Valuation.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification
  • A minimum of 5 years working experience in customs related function

  • Willingness to work hands-on with procedures and records.

  • Communicate clearly with all areas of the business and maintain inter and intra departmental relationships.
  • Able to effectively adapt to change (environment, requirements, roles, objectives).

Key skills, knowledge and experience

The ideal candidate shall:

  • Be comfortable with a pragmatic approach to regulations.
  • Be proficient in English
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Customs broker license is a plus.
