Regional Director Eye Wear Operations (RDE)

Purpose of the role:

To be a strong conduit and go to market function. Translating, delivering and commercializing Eye Wear Operations (EWO) products, content and services within the respective region. Actively supporting all stakeholders to achieve Assortment Excellence, making Products an important core foundation and drum beat, leveraging EWO key methods and processes within each market. By offering the perfect assortment tailored to the specific banner positioning in each market, SKU performance and Sales per category will be maximized and customers will be turned into fans. In addition, the RDE is an active member of the global product assortment committee, ensuring that regional product needs are fed into the Global Catalogue (GC). Being well embedded in the region through functional reporting lines to Regional VP and Product Categories leads, allows strong Product voice within the regional leadership team on one hand and the role of efficient facilitator on the other hand.

Key responsibilities and tasks:

EWO Product – Content Offer

  • Delivers actions and key initiatives in the region according to the aligned roadmap and individual markets’ priorities, driving assortment performance across Frames, Lens including Sourcing & Procurement.
  • For Sun products ensures proper regional representation in the GC via dedicated regional Sun assortment Manager or a dedicated resource from a key market
  • For Lens category products, ensures proper regional representation in group contracts as well as optimized offer within the region, via, where relevant, a dedicated regional Lens assortment manager or a dedicated resource from a key market
  • Ensures Consumer Insights, innovation and competition data from the markets are regularly shared with the EWO team, including EWO consumer insights
  • Makes sure that branding content for Exclusive Brands (EBs) is leveraged fully by the respective markets
  • Warrants that the Trade Marketing Calendar is in place for both EBs and NEBs and aligned with the overall global Calendar contemplating regional calendar specificities
  • Supports local implementation of global Frames, Sun and Lens contract terms and conditions and ensures full leverage within the region, including global product launches

Commercializing the offer – Performance Mgmt.

  • Monitors and ensures local execution of globally defined EWO standards, guidelines, policies and key initiatives
  • Tracks compliance of OpCo practices versus global GV methodology (e.g. compliance to buy within GC)
  • Ensures EWO product offer is well embedded in each market delivering the right level of conversion and 1st pair Sales and Margin targets
  • Manages Performance of EWO assortment from a regional level and provides feedback to the global assortment team
  • Ensures In-Season Mgmt. and Financial planning is firmly executed ensuring constant fresh assortment, best seller availability, improving Sales and reducing DSI
  • Leverages EB and NEB Brand content through in store merchandizing that puts in scene our frames assortment in a perfect way pushing PPS and overall rotation of products
  • Ensures booster saving initiatives are implemented and tracked within all OpCos across the region.

Go to Market support, Training and Coordination of EWO initiatives

  • Following the Banner Assortment definition methodology, makes sure the OpCos deliver the Banner Collection Plan (e.g. Banner Heatmap, Brand mapping, Product Attributes, C/O list, Wishlist)
  • Together with the OpCo teams define local heroes per banner using the Local Heroes tool to answer specific needs of local customers that visit our stores
  • Ensures each OpCo in the region builds the right store assortment per banner by defining store clusters to manage correct assortment customization through EWO methodology
  • Review financial performance and close gaps to continuously optimize the collection
  • Makes sure all OpCo teams use the Assortment Evaluation Cockpit for in-season management and for defining the Banner Assortment, advocating one common, shared view on assortment performance in each banner
  • Aligns with Product Category leads on local targets/KPIs regarding the development of the EWO business in the OpCo and monitors progress
  • Regularly visits the OpCos and aligns with local key people to ensure business view and change impact
  • Connects local and global EWO category stakeholders and stimulates direct and hands-on support
  • Functional lead of PVC Directors for all EWO matters

Product Assortment Committee

  • Participates actively to Product Assortment Committees (PAC), representing the OpCo teams to drive decisions on strategic topics of the GC
  • Designates Operational PAC representatives and ensures alignment to defined Global and Regional strategic objectives
  • Consolidates, validates and challenges demands from the OpCos and transmits to global EWO including assortment needs into GC
  • Ensures proper preparation of attendees from the region in meetings and Selection Days, using common tools, like Assortment Evaluation Cockpit, Wish List, Best Sellers tool
  • Ensure quality and completeness of GC extension request card (submitted to GVHQ)
  • Facilitates GC decision making, supporting issue resolution. Endorses and facilitates deployment of global brands strategy, as well a GVHQ assortment policies and guidelines

Active member of regional leadership team

  • Acts as an active member of the regional leadership team and supports the Regional VP in the development of the region
  • Conduits between GVHQ and the OpCo organizations, being the go-to person for the markets for anything beyond the local organization
  • Shares best practices on successful EWO initiatives or routines within the regional EWO community and drives local adoption / implementation
  • Identifies talent in the local teams and facilitates the right profile in the right position both in and between the region(s), acting as coach and mentor for talent development
  • Builds a regional community with a focus on perfect local execution
  • Facilitates the company transformation

Profile and Leadership skills:

  • Strong leader, with a minimum of 7 years experience in managing teams; able to get ideas across
  • Great analytical skills, with a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a business relevant area or expertise
  • A great retail mind with deep knowledge and experience mainly in Category Management, but also in Sourcing and (Trade) Marketing, including how to define a collection plan and activate performance through an effective in-store merchandizing and commercial policy.
  • Experienced in brick-and-mortar retail, preferably with E-Comm extension
  • Able to build a shared vision; capable of inspiring teams to jointly move in the direction that is best for the company
  • Demonstrates strong intrapersonal skills with ability to bring talent together for maximum results/output
  • Result-driven, maximizing every business opportunity; entrepreneurial spirit
  • Strong driver of commercial initiatives within the complex framework of local, regional and global interdependencies and interests
  • Ability to balance local details and needs with regional and sometimes global requirements
  • Able to focus on details while overseeing and safeguarding the bigger picture
